Bathroom Sinks

As my partner and I headed into this remodel project, we knew there would be a lot of things that we didn’t know, and a lot of things that we were going to have to figure out if we wanted to put back certain items like they were before, like the bathroom sinks or change them, like the washer and dryer. The bathroom was one of the rooms of this remodelling project that we have actually changed quite a bit.

We decided to move the bathroom sink over onto the outside wall and install a mirrored cabinet above it (which it didn’t have before) to hide the breaker box. Where the sink had been previously on the inside wall, we decided to put the washer hook-ups, so there was less hot water line that water has to go through going from our tank-less hot water heater to the hot water faucet on the washing machine. The toilet will stay where it was before, on the same outside wall that will soon have the new ceramic sinks. The dryer will also stay on the outside wall because of the vent to the outside for it, but the electrical outlet for it has been moved over closer to the corner by our electrician.

Picking the right bathtub was definitely a chore! I didn’t realize they had so many different options.

Over the bathtub, we are having our electrician install a waterproof recessed light fixture. That was one of the ideas that I helped with. When we first decided to replace the tub, my partner and his brother were talking about not putting a light in, and I pointed out that, sometimes, people might want a light over the shower to shave with or whatever. They said that was not something they would have thought of on their own. (It felt good to be able to contribute an idea from a different perspective than what “the guys” had!)

Paint was another area where we were surprised by the possibilities! It took us what seemed like forever to decide what color to paint the ceiling in the bathroom. My son, who was 6 at the time, wanted purple because that’s his favorite color. My partner and I went along with that because we were supposed to be renting the house out after we got it done, and then my partner had a co-worker agree to buy the house, so now the purple ceiling has to go. Oh well, off-white it is, I guess.

All in all, remodelling this bathroom has been a BIG learning experience for us, especially with us now looking at bathroom sinks for our own house! We have learned alot of things that we know we want to do or NOT want to do with the bathroom in our house now!
